There’s another debut on tap for Thursday’s MLB slate as Luis Castillo is set to make his first start for the Chicago White Sox (59-54) after being acquired earlier this week from the Seattle Mariners. Castillo and the White Sox will face the Boston Red Sox (62-51) in the series finale at Fenway Park as the Red Sox go for the three-game sweep.
The Red Sox extended their winning streak to seven games Wednesday night with a 4-0 shutout victory over the White Sox. Boston starter Sonny Gray allowed just three hits and struck out eight batters over six innings, while the bullpen recorded six strikeouts in three innings of work to close out the game. Wilyer Abreu hit his 20th home run of the season and now has three long balls through the first two games of this series after hitting two in Tuesday’s dominant 14-2 win.
All-Star left-hander Ranger Suárez is scheduled to take the mound for the Red Sox in Thursday night’s series finale as he looks to help Boston complete the sweep and spoil Castillo’s White Sox debut. Castillo is a three-time All-Star and was once a Cy Young contender, but the 2026 season hasn’t been his best. The 33-year-old owns a 3-9 record with a 5.06 ERA across 20 appearances, including 17 starts.

For reference, he has 20 home runs and 57 RBIs overall, so the majority of his production has come against righties. Abreu typically bats third in the Red Sox lineup, which creates plenty of opportunities for him to drive in runs even when he’s not hitting home runs, especially against a struggling pitcher like Castillo.
