We’re taking a look at a few NFL season win totals for 2026 and sharing our thoughts on whether certain teams can exceed expectations.

From the New York Giants to the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams, here’s where we stand on some of the latest win total odds at Hard Rock Bet.

Jarvis Landry on the New York Giants Win Total (7.5)

I’m taking over 7.5 wins. There are six games that I think the Giants have a real chance to win, if not just win by lining up.

I think they go over 7.5 wins. Now, I don’t think they win the division, but that also depends on what happens with life after A.J. Brown in Philadelphia. Can Jalen Hurts get it done?

That division is always a bit of a toss-up. It always seems to come down to the end of the year. But I definitely think the Giants win more than 7.5 games.

Jarvis Landry on the Cleveland Browns Win Total (5.5)

I’m going over again, this time at 5.5.

Listen, I know a little football. Just a little bit.

I think the Browns go over 5.5 wins, and here’s why: I think Deshaun Watson starts the season. Let’s take a look at the schedule.

Jacksonville? I think that’s a dub. Tampa Bay? Maybe an L. Carolina? I think that’s a dub. Pittsburgh? That’s a dub.

Then you’ve got the Jets. I don’t know, the Jets might be a toss-up because I like what they did in the draft. I like the Jets this year.

Baltimore? They’ll lose that one for sure. Tennessee? I think Cleveland wins that game.

Then they play Pittsburgh again. I think they win. I think they sweep Pittsburgh.

The Browns Quarterback Situation Could Be Key

The stretch in November is where things get interesting.

If Cleveland is dealing with a quarterback situation at that point, that’s when the switch-up happens. You can’t wait much later than a couple weeks into November if you’re trying to make a playoff push.

It’s going to be interesting to watch.

I actually think they win six games, but I’m still taking the over. We’ll see.

Life Without Myles Garrett

One thing you also have to consider is not having Myles Garrett out there.

A lot of teams prepare for him in a certain way. Without him, they don’t have to prepare the same way anymore.

Lenny played against guys where pass protection looks one way when they’re on the field and completely different when they’re not.

That’s definitely something worth considering when evaluating the Browns this season.

Jarvis Landry on the Los Angeles Rams Win Total (11.5)

Oh, they’re winning it all.

I’ve got the Rams going to and winning the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City vs. Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium. There might be a script to this after all.

Give me over 11.5 wins.

Jarvis Landry’s Giants, Browns & Rams 2026 NFL Win Total Picks

New York Giants Over 7.5 Wins (-115)

Cleveland Browns Over 5.5 Wins (+105)

Los Angeles Rams Over 11.5 Wins (-125)

We’re back with another episode of Fourth and South, joined by a true legend of the game: five-time NBA All-Star, 1997 All-NBA First Team, three-time All-NBA Second Team, 1993 All-NBA Third Team, 1990 All-Rookie First Team, 1997 NBA assist leader, Olympic gold medalist, and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer.

A key figure from the iconic Run TMC era, the “Killer Crossover” himself out of UTEP: Tim Hardaway Sr.

From the physical intensity of 90’s basketball to parenting, mental toughness, and watching his son carry on the family legacy, Hardaway shared unfiltered insight into the mindset that defined his career.

The Killer Crossover & Today’s Game

We opened the conversation by asking Hardaway how he feels watching today’s players still use the move that made him famous.

How do you feel when you see players today still using your crossover?

Love it. Coaches are still teaching it. Players are still using it and it’s effective. James Harden, I see him use it all the time.

In the national championship game, I saw Elliot Cadeau use it against Connecticut and got to the basket and made a play. So I see coaches still using this, still implementing in these guards’ games.

It just depends on what you feel comfortable with. As a guard, it’s all about what you feel comfortable with on the basketball court dribbling the basketball.

And these guys feel comfortable doing my move, which is great. And I always say, I wish I could really catch it and write it down and show people. But by that time I’d be like, man forget that.

But no, it’s great. It’s fun to watch people do your move.

Being Undersized in a Physical Era

From there, we shifted into how much tougher and more physical the game was in the 1990s, and how Hardaway’s mentality allowed him to thrive despite being undersized.

How were you able to attack the rim the way you did in such a physical era, especially as a smaller guard?

Not afraid. That mentality came from how I grew up.

I knew I was short. It wasn’t like I thought I was going to grow to be 6’7 or 6’10. I knew I had to play against taller guys all my life, so I had to learn how to shoot over them and make plays against size.

But that also came from practice. We all had to work on our game by ourselves. So when kids tell me they can’t go out there and practice alone, that insults my intelligence. That insults me as a basketball player and as an athlete.

You’ve got to go out there and work by yourself. Even if you’re just dribbling the ball up and down the street or in your driveway, you’ve got to go through moves, but do it at game speed. That’s how you get better.

I tell kids all the time – imagine somebody you don’t like is guarding you. Imagine somebody went at you. Then go out there and work on your in-and-out moves, your between-the-legs, your spin moves – but do it at game speed.

That’s how I got better. I was in my basement by myself working on my game. We had an unfinished basement with two beams down there and I’d just be sweating, working, doing my thing.

That’s why I was able to go out there and dribble the way I did and eventually develop the crossover.

Raising Tim Hardaway Jr.

One of the most powerful moments in the conversation came when the topic turned to parenting – specifically, how Hardaway learned not to force his own upbringing and mentality onto his son.

How did you learn not to put the way you were raised onto your son?

It was hard. It was really hard.

I was hard on my son at first. I was tearing up the house talking basketball all the time, always on him, always pushing.

Then one day, it was a beautiful Sunday. We were all home, the playoffs were on, and I asked him to come watch the game with me. He said no, respectfully, but I saw his face. His face told me more than his words did. His face said, “I’m not messing with you today.”

That hurt me. It really tore me down.

My wife and my daughters had been telling me already, “Leave him alone. Encourage him. Stop talking about basketball all the time.”

So when I saw that look on his face, that’s when it hit me. I said, you know what, I’m going to leave him alone. I don’t want to divide the household. I don’t want him saying, “Because of you, I don’t love this game anymore.”

So I shut up. And it was hard to do.

But once I stepped back and just watched him play, I realized something: he was doing everything I had asked him to do. He was trying hard. He was competing. He was doing everything he could for his team.

So after games, I kept it simple. “Good game.” If they won, “That was a great win.” And that was it.

That’s when our relationship started growing. That’s when he started coming to me with questions. That’s when he wanted to know more.

I tell parents all the time – sometimes we want it more than they do. But kids don’t always see things as early as we see them. You have to let them grow at their own pace.

It’s not for you. It’s for them.

And if you embarrass them in the stands, yelling at referees, yelling at coaches, acting a fool, that hurts them more than people realize.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is just be quiet and let your son or daughter grow.

Watching His Son Live the Dream

From there, Hardaway opened up about the pride he feels watching his son succeed at the highest level.

What does it feel like watching your son live the same dream you once lived?

When I’m sitting at home watching my son play and my wife or daughters walk past and ask why I’m smiling, I tell them, “Because I’m enjoying my son play the game of basketball.”

That’s me. I’m living a second life through him.

When he went to the Final Four and then to the championship game, I was playing in that game. People laugh when I say that, but I mean it. I was sweating. My wife was asking me why my hands were sweaty, and I’m like, because I’m playing.

That’s how it feels. When your son is out there, you’re out there too.

And when he’s on? Man, my chest is out, my head is up, I’m on cloud nine. It’s a feeling I can’t even describe. Y’all just have to feel that for yourselves one day.

That’s my son. I’m proud of him every single time I watch him hoop.

What advice do you give your son now, not as a basketball player, but as a father?

Always believe in yourself. Always have confidence in yourself.

Everybody gets down. Everybody has bad days. But the next time you shoot the ball, the next time you play defense, the next time you step on that court – believe something positive is going to happen.

Never let anybody take your confidence away from you.

And always believe in the work you put in.

One time he called me frustrated about his shot not falling and not being able to get his rhythm back. I told him, “Tim, you’re not going to shoot 1,000% for the year.”

I was 0-for-17 in a game once. I still played. I still kept going.

That’s what I tell him: keep shooting with confidence. Some shots go in, some don’t. That’s basketball. But the next one, you’ve got to believe it’s going in.

That confidence can never leave you.

Coach Pittman and the Foundation of His Game

When the interview turned to mentorship, Hardaway spoke about the coach who helped shape him from a young age.

How did Coach Pittman help develop your mindset and your game?

It started in sixth grade.

I tried out for the sixth grade team. He told me to come back and try out for the seventh grade team the next day. Then after that, he told me to come back and try out for the eighth grade team.

Afterward, he told me I could have made the eighth grade team, but I was just too short.

From then on, he laid the foundation for me. After school, it was running around the gym, calisthenics, Mikan drills, fundamentals, bounce passes, layups the right way, all of it.

He taught me how to be a team player. He taught me what it takes to be in shape, to be healthy, to know the fundamentals, and to understand how to play the game the right way.

A lot of guys in grammar school didn’t know I was already playing pickup basketball against grown men in sixth and seventh grade. That matters. That helps shape your toughness.

That foundation stayed with me.

What was it like when Coach Pittman first showed you Isiah Thomas and told you that you played like him?

Man, that was incredible.

I was in class and Coach Pittman came and got me. Told me to grab my coat because we were going somewhere.

He took me to a high school playoff game and told me to watch number 11 in white: Isiah Thomas.

I’m sitting there watching him control the game, pass people open, lead his team, attack the basket, and just play with confidence.

Then I asked Coach Pittman why he wanted me to watch him. He said, “Because you play like him.”

I was stunned.

Back then, we didn’t have film on ourselves. You couldn’t watch your own game. So for him to tell me that I played like Isiah Thomas meant everything to me.

From that point on, I patterned my game after Isiah. I watched him as much as I could, followed his stats, studied how he dribbled, how he finished, how he shot off the glass. I tried to model my game after him in every way I could.

The “Get Your Lick Back” Mentality

The conversation also got into the mindset of competition, toughness, and remembering every little thing on the court.

Where did that “get your lick back” mentality come from?

Man, I used to get my lick back for real.

I remember one time a dude hit me so hard it made a tear come out. Then he called me a punk and said I was too little to come back out there.

I remember thinking, okay. I know what to do next time.

I built myself up and I got guys back. Maybe not that day. Maybe not the next week. Maybe it was a year later. But I remembered.

That’s how I was. I remembered everything.

Same with my cousins. They used to beat me up, tickle me, rough me up when I was younger. But when we got on the court? Oh, I was giving elbows, hard fouls, little extra stuff. And later on I told them, “Yeah, I was getting y’all back for all that stuff when we were younger.”

That’s the game within the game.

Rivalries Meant Something Back Then

When the topic turned to rivalries, Hardaway made it clear just how personal those battles used to be.

How different were rivalries in your era compared to now?

It was different because it was real.

Back then, if we were rivals, I’m not shaking your hand before the game. I’m not smiling with you. I’m not helping you up. We can love each other off the court, sure, but in between those lines, it’s personal.

I remember being around Charlie Ward after a playoff series. We were on a Nike trip in China and we still weren’t speaking. People noticed it.

Finally I told him, “Look, we don’t have to like each other, but for the sake of the kids and the people here, let’s at least be respectful.”

So we did that while we were there. But once we got back home? It went right back to it. That’s how real it was.

That’s just how we played. And a lot of that came from Pat Riley. That mentality was part of the culture.

What made Pat Riley such a powerful coach and leader?

Pat Riley always had you ready to play.

One time after a game, he was so fired up that he stuck his head into some ice-cold water – the same kind they use for your feet – and it shocked him so bad they had to come check on him.

That’s how intense he was.

But the thing about Pat was this: even if you were already self-motivated, he could still give a speech that had you ready to run through a wall.

He was always prepared. He had his team prepared. He was always focused, and he had his team focused.

And I loved that. A lot of guys couldn’t handle practice the way he ran it, but I loved practicing. I loved going in there and getting prepared.

Sometimes it was overboard. Sometimes you needed it. But that’s who he was.

Modern Guard Comparisons

Hardaway was also asked which players in today’s game reflect pieces of his own style.

Who do you see in today’s NBA that reminds you of your style of play?

Jalen Brunson, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Steph Curry, Devin Vassell, and Jamal Murray.

Those are guys I look at and see pieces of that.

Now, there aren’t a lot of them. But those guys stand out to me.

Brunson, especially – I like the way he controls the game. Shai too. Murray is real nice. Before the injuries and now coming back, you can see that same caliber again.

Those are some of the guards I really enjoy watching.

On LeBron James Defying Father Time

The interview also touched on LeBron’s longevity and what Hardaway sees when he watches him now.

How much longer do you think LeBron can keep doing this?

What he has done is phenomenal.

He just keeps defying people. He keeps defying father time. And a big part of it is that he’s healthy.

At that age, guys just aren’t jumping like that anymore. They don’t have that kind of athleticism anymore. But he still does.

So for me, I just say enjoy it. Let him decide each day what he wants to do based on how his body feels.

But I do know this – he’s not going to just quit. He’s going to let people know when it’s his last year, and when he does, he deserves that farewell tour in every city.

We don’t want to see him go out hurt. We want him to go out the right way, when he’s still himself.

That’s what a player like that deserves.

What do you remember about seeing young LeBron for the first time?

I saw him at Hoops after he had just gotten his cast off. I didn’t really recognize him at first.

We were playing and there was a three-on-two break. We knew he liked to pass, so me and another guy both leaned to stop the pass.

And he just took off.

From basically the free throw line.

He missed the dunk, but after the play we were all just standing there like, “Did you see that?”

It looked like a cartoon. That’s how crazy it was.

His jump shot wasn’t there yet, but his playmaking ability was already special. You could tell he understood how to play the game and that he was ready for the next level.

Nobody knows somebody is going to become what LeBron became. You can speculate, but you never really know.

But everybody who believed in him turned out to be right.

The Legacy of Run TMC

Later, Hardaway reflected on what made Run TMC so dangerous and why that group never got the full runway it deserved.

What made Run TMC special, and how good could that group have been?

Run TMC was unique.

We had the IQ. We knew how to play. We knew how to set our defenders up. We practiced together, talked through situations, and knew each other’s cues.

We could get up and down the court in transition, but we could also make plays in the half court.

With Chris Mullin, you had one of the deadliest shooters ever. Mitch Richmond could score any way you wanted. And me, I could orchestrate everything while still scoring and making plays myself.

We were dangerous.

If we had more time – and if we had kept the nucleus together – I really think we could’ve done something special.

But you don’t trade your nucleus after two and a half, three years. You don’t do that. Give it five or six years and see what it becomes.

Once Mitch got traded, that hurt us. We were never able to recover from that.

People were scared of us before that. After Mitch was gone, teams felt like they could neutralize the other two.

That changed everything.

Where would you rank Run TMC among the greatest Big Threes ever?

If you’re talking about championships, then Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili have to be at the top.

Magic, Kareem, and Worthy are right there too. Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman.

Then Shaq, Kobe, and their group. Then LeBron, Wade, and Bosh. Then the Warriors group with Steph, Klay, and Draymond.

But when it comes to us – Run TMC – I’m putting us in that top five conversation.

The difference is a lot of those groups won championships, and we didn’t get enough time together.

But talent for talent? Style for style? The pressure we put on teams? People didn’t want to deal with us.

That’s how I see it.

Hardaway’s Advice to Young Athletes

The interview closed on a deeper note, with Hardaway offering advice for young people facing pressure, criticism, and mental health struggles.

What message would you give to young athletes trying to stay level-headed and block out outside noise?

Outside noise is exactly what it is – outside noise.

I used to take what people said about me and use it as motivation. Too short. Can’t shoot over anybody. Can’t defend. Can’t finish. Can’t do this, can’t do that.

I used all of it as fuel.

I also pray every day. I thank God every day. I thank Him for waking me up, for my family, for our health.

And I tell young people this all the time: talk to somebody.

Back in our day, especially in our communities, we didn’t talk about mental health. We didn’t know how. People were hurting, but nobody said anything.

Now you can talk. So talk.

You are not by yourself. There are people who will protect you, help you, and listen to you. You just have to know who you can trust.

And never let anybody take your confidence away from you. Never let anybody tell you what you can’t do. Never let anybody drag you into the mud and take away your spirit.

Always protect yourself. Mentally, emotionally, spiritually – protect yourself.

And remember, it’s okay if sports isn’t your path.

It’s okay to be studious. It’s okay to own a company. It’s okay to be a manager, a pilot, a lawyer, whatever you want to be.

But whatever it is, it’s going to take hard work.

And if you put the work in, you’ll reap the rewards.

Patience is a virtue.

That’s nice to hear, you know? It is. But when you’re playing, you don’t really want to hear those accolades.

You’re just trying to get by that day, get through that day, get better that week and be the best player and teammate you can be on a weekly basis.

But now that you’re done, a couple years out, it’s like yeah, praise me baby. That’s what it’s all about.

It’s cool to just get refreshed about it and it’s a good feeling.

It’s cool to know I did make a huge impact, because you don’t really notice that impact that you made on the NFL.

Because like I said, it’s a weekly game and you’re fighting for your job every single day.

You don’t really see or feel that impact until you’re out of the league. I just felt that impact right there.

Gronk’s Angry NFL Draft Night

The conversation turned to draft night: a moment that still sticks with Gronk’s mother to this day.

Can you tell us about your draft experience, especially after going in the 2nd Round?

I was bitter. It was the only time in my life where my mom looked at me like, “I never seen you mad before.”

She can recall two times and she always brings up this moment.

I went to the draft actually. I was one of the invites to go to New York City and it was the first year ever where they were like, “We’re going to invite guys out of the top 10.” They wanted like 20, 30 guys there even if they go second round.

So my claim to fame is that I was the first guy ever to be in New York City to get drafted in the second round.

There’s a couple guys after me at least. At least I wasn’t one of the last ones. That would have hurt a little bit.

I sat there all through the first round and I went second round the next day after and I celebrated like I was a wild maniac.

But my mom saw that tense feeling in me, the disappointment that I didn’t go first round.

Jermaine Gresham was the first round tight end that year when he went to Cincinnati. I had a feeling he was going to go there because I tried out for Cincinnati. I had a little private workout for them.

They kind of let me know they were going to lean more towards Jermaine unless I really impressed them, which I thought I did. I had a good workout.

I was kind of bitter. And my mom still says to this day, that was one of the only two times that she saw me mad.

But then when I got drafted in the second round to the New England Patriots, let me tell you, it didn’t matter what round you went, what pick you went. It was just the best feeling to get drafted and have your lifelong dream finally come true.

The Hands: A Gift From Dad

We asked Gronk about his legendary catching ability, which is something that’s been there since day one.

Your hands have never failed you. Was that something natural or developed?

My dad actually loved working on our hand-eye coordination growing up.

We would be in the backyard and he’d hit tennis balls at us and we would have to catch them. He would just rapid fire them.

And when you can work on that skill set as a kid, I feel like once you get it, you maintain that through the rest of your life.

That’s why I believe with sports like soccer, hockey, and basketball – you got to play that since you’re a kid. You got to start training for that and playing full speed.

With football, I gained that skill set as a kid because of those drills, and I just had it naturally as well.

I still have it. I’ll never lose that.

Like, if Tom and I are on Fox and it’s a segment where he throws me a ball on screen from one side to the other side of the field on the pregame show, I’ll just snatch that ball out of midair like it’s nothing.

It’ll always be there.

Inside the Bucs Super Bowl Run

We then moved on to his Tampa Bay years and the magic of that 2020 Super Bowl run with the Buccaneers.

How did that team come together?

That was one of the best runs I’ve ever been a part of throughout my NFL career. And it was a different style run, too, because we all came together late in that season.

The team was put together throughout the offseason, then you came during training camp and everyone was still trying to figure it out. We had some good games, we had some bad games, and then we went on a bye week.

When we came back from that bye week, everyone started clicking with each other and everyone understood their assignment. Everyone knew how each other’s skill sets worked together and how to work off of each other.

We went undefeated from there. Won eight in a row – four of the last regular season games to get into the playoffs and then four playoff games in a row, all on the road.

We were rewarded by winning all those games on the road by having the Super Bowl in our own stadium in Tampa Bay, which was the first time a team won a Super Bowl in their home stadium.

And I remember playoff Lenny, dude. You just turned it up another notch. That’s how you win championship games – you can have a solid regular season or a little down regular season, but it’s when you play your best football late in the season. And that’s what we did.

Lenny turned it up to another level. It was like seeing Lenny at LSU again. No one could tackle him. It just eliminates all the negatives if you had them throughout the season, if you turn it up in the playoffs.

Did you see Lenny struggling with that transition?

I saw you struggling with that at first because you’ve been a number one your whole career, man. No doubt about it.

What you did at LSU – you’re a number four draft pick overall. That’s basically being number one overall if you’re top five.

But there’s always going to be a situation in the NFL where you’re not going to be the number one. I feel like that was your first time being the number two. So you really didn’t know how to handle that situation.

But what’s huge is you had some down weeks because of it, but you bounced back. You understood, hey, I got to be the best player I can be when my opportunity comes.

That’s what you did, man. That’s why you were playoff Lenny – stepping up, taking that attitude of “I’m number two” and showing that when my number is called, I’m going to step up. That’s what you did in the playoffs. That’s why we handed you the ball non-stop in the playoffs, baby.

When did you know you were going to beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl?

I kind of felt like we were going to handle them pretty well throughout the process of the week.

Our game plan was solid. And what I loved about it is that we had total confidence in it.

It wasn’t like we would practice it on Tuesday and then Wednesday comes and we’re all getting worried, “If this guy comes, we’re going to change this up. You’re going to flare out here. You’re going to change your route.”

I’ve been part of Super Bowl runs where we start scrambling late in the week. But we really stuck to our game plan. It was the same exact plays on the script that we were working on for those final two weeks.

We executed those plays like we did throughout the whole time we were practicing. That’s when I felt like we were going to handle them pretty well, just the practices leading up to the Super Bowl.

How tough was that playoff run?

I would say it was one of the hardest playoff runs in the history of football.

We went to our first game in Washington. They weren’t that great of a team, but we were still on the road. They were solid for an 8-8 team. They had Chase Young, first round pick overall, who was explosive coming off the ball.

Then we went into New Orleans, and they already smacked us twice that year. We had a great game plan there. We finally put everything together to beat them. It wasn’t that pretty – it was our defense that game. We just did enough on offense to win.

Then we went into Green Bay and smacked them around. It wasn’t that pretty either, but we did everything we needed to do on offense. Our defense stepped up tremendously throughout the playoffs.

When we got to the Super Bowl, we just put it together as a team. It was the best complementary football you could have possibly played for a Super Bowl.

How did everyone contribute during that run?

In the playoffs, everyone contributed. It wasn’t like one guy had a hell of a playoff run. Everyone truly contributed the same amount.

Going into the Super Bowl, I had three catches in the first three playoff games. That first game versus Washington, Cam Brate had like six catches for 80 yards over the middle. All the receivers went off.

Versus New Orleans, I had one catch. Versus Green Bay, I had two catches, but one was crucial – second or third down to close out the game on a screen for about 30 yards.

Then boom, Super Bowl, I came alive. Six catches, over 60 yards. But everyone was contributing. Every receiver went off at a certain time and it was at the right time to help us win the game.

Like Scotty Miller, our fifth receiver – final 30 seconds against Green Bay in the first half. We used his skill set. He’s a speedster. He runs full speed down the field. Green Bay messed up that play by not just backpedaling, but we used his skill set. Scotty Miller blew by the DB with 10 seconds left. Boom. Touchdown.

That was the play that won us that game.

The Best Team Gronk Has Played For

We asked Gronk to compare the 2020 Bucs to any team he’d ever played on.

Who’s the better team, the 2020 Buccaneers or any of your other past teams?

Skill-wise, I think that team was probably the best skill set team I’ve ever been on throughout my career.

We had everyone. Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, Lenny, myself, Cam Brate, and then Ronald Jones.

Jones is a beast too. He could run hard when he was on. That’s why it’s kind of hard to argue who was number one and two.

How did you guys manage it at tight end?

I had ones and twos at tight end too. We had Cam Brate, he was a one throughout his career. OJ Howard too, we all split time and we all knew how to work off of each other.

It’s not competing versus each other. It’s how do you work with each other? How do we use this skill set of this tight end or that tight end where everything works together?

That’s what we figured out.

Of course Cam was the route runner. I did it all. We had OJ who came in for special plays and occasions because he was faster than us. Unfortunately he got hurt though, tore his Achilles around week six.

2021 Bucs: The Almost Repeat

We also spoke about the heartbreak of the following season, and why going back-to-back slipped away.

You guys almost went back-to-back. What happened?

We almost repeated. The Rams were nice though – they were stacked just like us.

There were so many factors.

We didn’t play our best ball that game. And they did.

How hard is it to go back-to-back?

To go back to back is one of the hardest things to do in all sports, especially in the NFL.

Everyone’s out to get you. Everyone wants to play their best football versus the champs, and they’re targeting you.

Everything has to work out and play in your favor. People have to stay healthy. You got to be playing your best football at the best time.

That’s what didn’t happen for us. The year before, we were all clicking, playing our best football, super healthy.

The second year, we weren’t healthy. The AB situation, Wirfs wasn’t there. Everything wasn’t clicking.

That’s why you win and lose games. Everything has to click to the tee in order to win championships.

Playing Through Pain in Tampa

We asked Gronk about the physical toll of those final years in Tampa.

How hard was it for you physically in Tampa?

It was nice to have that year off before. That’s why I retired with New England and then came back. I still had like two years left of me. Maybe two or three, or even one.

But I was never like, myself. There were some games where I definitely struggled. I was slow as can be, kind of like my last year in New England.

I had to pick and choose some plays – when to turn it on, when not – because I couldn’t be full speed with the explosiveness.

You have to be smart with it. That’s how you last longer in the NFL. You got to know the game better, because your skill set is going to diminish a little bit. But if you know the game of football better, you can outsmart your opponent.

That’s how I played – I trickled myself into the offense, used my skill set and the smartness to get open on play actions and find the open hole.

It wasn’t like I was going to go for 1,200, 1,300, 1,400 yards like I used to. But I had enough of the skill set to use in both the pass game and run game to be very effective still.

2018 Patriots-Jaguars Controversy: Was Myles Jack Down?

We had to go there. Lenny’s Jacksonville fans still bring this one up to this day.

In your opinion, did the Patriots cheat the Jaguars in the 2018 AFC Championship Game?

Yeah, but we didn’t do the cheating.

It was just a call on the field at the time, but if you go back and watch it now, I don’t think he was down.

I think the NFL came out and even admitted he wasn’t down. I think Tom even admitted it too.

But we didn’t have anything to do with that. Our running back got stripped in the corner and Myles Jack picked it up and was going to the house. That would have been a touchdown. That would have basically been the game.

But it was such a bam-bam play, and back then it wasn’t like all these reviews.

When it’s that fast, you couldn’t tell in the moment. But when you go slow motion, you can’t sit there and say he was down.

What made that final drive so special?

It wasn’t anything spectacular. It wasn’t any great throws.

What was so great was the way Tom dissected Jacksonville’s defense. They weren’t giving anything up.

But he would hit that little hole that was the only one open on the whole field. He did it the whole entire drive. He didn’t make a single mistake.

You guys weren’t going to give us a 30 yard bomb. He was just hitting the running back for six. Have this run for four, get the first down. No big play.

Then to hit Ammendola on the over route – that was the perfect play call. Dola was right in that opening. That was the only opening on the field.

Tom hit every single opening that was on the field that whole drive.

Wildest Party?

You can’t sit down with Gronk without talking about his partying.

What was the hardest you ever partied after a win?

The hardest I probably partied was after the first Super Bowl we won in Arizona versus the Seattle Seahawks.

We had the afterparty – Flo Rida was playing, Pitbull, all that. We were on stage. Probably went to bed at like 5am, hopped on the plane in the morning, got maybe 2, 3 hours of sleep.

You wake up still wasted and so beat up from the adrenaline of the game that you can’t even go back to sleep.

I took a plane to LA. Went on Jimmy Kimmel that night. Started drinking right when I got to LA – I needed to feel better. Went on Kimmel pretty toasty. Killed that. That was one of my best late night show interviews of all time. It was out of control.

Then I went out that night again until like 4 a.m. On 3 hours of sleep after playing a Super Bowl game.

Finally flew back to Boston the next day for the parade. I get to the parade and I feel like crap. What’d I do? Just started going again.

That parade had so much energy and electricity in the air. It was the best party I’ve ever been a part of. Getting your own parade as a team, going through a city of millions of people cheering for you. That was the coolest party I’ve ever been a part of.

Then I went out that night and called it.

You got to do a three-day bender when you’re that young. We were all doing it.

Did partying ever affect your game?

Yeah, definitely. It definitely affected my game.

I used to go to that level – hammered, like 15 drinks, out of control dancing for four hours. I had to turn it off. I had to get away from it because I only knew how to turn it up so high, and it was hurting me. I was getting too old to recover.

But now I’m back in the game where I know how to get to the level I need to get to. It’s not too much. I’m recovering the next day. I’m still fine.

WrestleMania just got me back in the game officially. I even said when I woke up, “All right, I know how to party again.”

Belichick vs. Bruce Arians

We asked Gronk to break down the difference between the only two head coaches he ever played for in the NFL.

What was the difference between Belichick and BA?

Coach Belichick was more hands-on. A little bit more discipline.

BA definitely had some discipline to him too, but it was a different style – not as intense and hands-on as Belichick.

The big difference was Belichick is more of a special teams, defensive guy. He dipped his hands into the offense every once in a while. He was harder on you when you didn’t do something right because he expected it out of you, even though he wasn’t part of the offense. He wasn’t telling you what to do, but when you’re not playing up to par, he’d get on you.

BA was teaching you the offense. He was more laid-back but he was an offensive-minded guy, more hands-on with the offense.

That was the true difference – I had an offensive-minded coach with BA and Belichick was more about keeping you accountable on the offensive side.

Is the “Patriot Way” real?

It’s kind of like a myth, but it’s not a myth. It’s true, but it’s not truly true.

There was never like, “All right, this is the Patriot Way.” It was never explained like that. Belichick was never like, “Patriot Way, this is how you do it.” We never said the Patriot Way, ever, in the locker room.

That became a thing with the media and outside people looking in.

But there was a standard. That’s more like it. There’s a standard to be held accountable every single day at a high level – show up and put in the best work you could possibly put in, and gain the trust of your teammates on a daily basis.

And it made you a better player and a better person.

I was blessed when I went to New England because I kind of needed that in my life. I was a freelancer out there.

So having that structure was phenomenal for me.

Gronk is Frugal

We had to get into the money talk, and it didn’t disappoint.

Is it true you still haven’t spent a dime of your NFL money?

That’s hilarious. That just got brought up the other day.

Technically not, because at the beginning I was like – I’m making it to the NFL. I never imagined it to be where it is now.

I was like, if I play three years – I was a second round pick, it was $4 million, like 3.5 guaranteed – if I play those four and that’s all I have, I can put 2 million in my bank. And I’m good.

I thought just renting an apartment was great. I didn’t know high standard living. I got brought up as more of a frugal guy, frugal family. Parents are frugal. I was using my brother’s equipment, they’d hand it down to me. I didn’t even know what new was.

If I save my money and live off a couple endorsements, doing cards, little appearances – I can be totally fine. I never have to work at 24 years old if I just play four years in the league.

That was my mindset going in. Then things just kept growing. So I never tapped into my NFL money really.

Now things are blowing up. If you look at it, I still have my NFL money.

BodyArmor, Kobe & Business Lessons

The conversation naturally turned to one of Gronk’s earliest business ventures.

Did Kobe get you to invest in BodyArmor?

I was actually the first person to represent BodyArmor, the first athlete. I didn’t invest in it. I got a little payday at first, couple shares.

About two years into it, I won the Super Bowl and they offered me something lower than what I had previously. That doesn’t make sense, I just won a Super Bowl. But they were struggling as a company at that time.

I didn’t know anything about anything. I didn’t even know how companies work. I didn’t know how business worked.

So I left and went to Monster Energy.

Then a year later, you saw the whole production with Kobe. He invested and BodyArmor started to really catch on. I was like, that’s cool. I’m with Monster, I’m not going to hate.

Then it just kept growing and growing. I’m like, I’m starting to understand how business works. I see what they were doing at the beginning. I’m in the business world more and more, because when you’re a kid you don’t know how anything works. You got to learn as you grow.

Eventually I saw it get sold when I was with the Bucs and I totally forgot about the shares I had. I got a nice chunk of change because of those shares from the first two years.

That’s when I really realized, oh, I see how the equity works now. That was a huge eye-opener for me.

I was on before Kobe. But he did a phenomenal job taking that brand to another level. No hate, no bad blood.

Now the guy who started BodyArmor just started another hydration drink – Recover 180. It’s about two years into it. A lot of great flavors. We’re friends. I saw him at a party, we’re cool, and I invested into that. Start over. I’m all in, baby.

Financial Advice for Young Players

We asked Gronk what advice he would give to any young players coming into the league.

Any advice for the young guys financially?

I spend now, baby. But I got it. That’s what I wanted. I spend, but I got it.

At first, just don’t go all in just because you have it. Simple advice, you don’t need the $200,000 car as a rookie. Get the $60,000 car. It’s basically just as flashy. It’s not going to make you more of a man or make you play better on the football field.

As a young buck, you start getting on that train right away – buying everything, all the jewelry, all the cars that depreciate the second you pull off the lot. Then guess what? You’re going to want to live that life your whole entire time.

I’m taking it one step at a time. Now I got a nice car, but I don’t have the nicest one yet. In 10 years, I’m going to have that Rolls-Royce because I just keep earning.

Spend in your means. You don’t got to go overboard. You don’t need everything flashy right away.

Just put it away. You never know when the NFL is going to be done with. Not For Long. And if you put it away, man, you’re set. Even if you put 2 million away, you’re set.

Just be basic at first. And just have energy. Have aura, that will attract everything.

Dream Guest List to Party With

We closed things out with a rapid-fire segment: three famous people you’d want at your party, and one party pooper.

You’re throwing a party. Who are the three most popular people in the world you’d want there?

Miley Cyrus in her Wrecking Ball era. Not Party in the USA, she was too young at the time. Wrecking Ball. That Wrecking Ball era Miley Cyrus. No doubt about that.

Jim Carrey. I don’t know if he parties or not, but just that electricity he brings to your table. That aura. Back in the day as well.

And Justin Bieber. He brings the heat to the table.

Name one person who’s a party pooper.

When I first got to New England, that era of Tom. He was a party pooper the first couple years. “Rob, don’t go out tonight. We got a game tomorrow.”

But now he’s the one out every night.

Or Bill. Bill when I first got there too. He was a party pooper.

I would invite Bill now, 100%. But we’re talking Bill from 2010, 2011. Party pooper.

We opened by revisiting the moment that ended Baltimore’s season, asking Zay what it was really like to be on that field when the kick missed.

Take us through what happened on that field goal in Pittsburgh.

It was crazy, because when Likely caught it, I was like, ‘Damn, we’re close.’ You’re at the 20, so it felt like we were right there.

But from a kicker perspective, you’ve got to add the 10 yards… you’ve got to add the seven. So I’m thinking we good.

So when I’m on the field, I’m talking trash. Like, game over.

Then I’m walking off and I look back and I’m like, damn, we’re kind of far.

I put my helmet down – I ain’t even going to look.

Kick. Boom. Somebody said he made it.

So I turn around hyped, but I see all the yellow towels just waving and screaming. I see the kicker on the field crying.

I’m like, “oh my god.”

I just put my helmet on and took off straight to the locker room. And I was just talking trash too. That’s what killed me.

Do you think watching it instead of turning away could have changed the outcome?

My eyes aren’t controlling his leg.

But two days before the game they switched out the whole field grass. It was still a little wet. And they had a priest out there putting holy water on the field. I’m like, bro, every time we play them, they do something weird out there.

Entering that Ravens-Steelers rivalry as a younger player, did you feel the inherited beef at all?

I ain’t got as much history with them as the older guys.

But going in, you know the rivalry, you know what’s going on.

I’m just going out there to hoop. Treat it like a normal game.

And then me and Lamar went out there and hooped.

After that second touchdown I caught, I’m like, “oh, this is over with.” Ain’t no way they coming back.

Harbaugh’s Departure from Baltimore

The conversation naturally shifted to the biggest change inside the building this offseason – the departure of a franchise legend.

Now that Harbaugh’s gone, does that rivalry still carry the same weight?

They just beat us to go to the playoffs.

It’s up. It’s going to be there.

That ain’t going nowhere.

When you heard Harbaugh was leaving, how did that hit you?

It was crazy. He’d been coaching that team probably since I was born.

To see him go and to be there while he’s gone – it hit way different.

I pulled up to the stadium and saw Coach Minter in his office. I’m like, damn, Harbaugh really gone.

But it’s a new time now. It’s more of a passing game.

Back in the day, Harbaugh had Ray Lewis and the defense – that’s how he won the Super Bowl. Now it’s all about explosiveness on offense. The game has shifted.

What did you take from his coaching that you’ll carry with you?

Just the way he prepared us for games. He could get anybody ready to play.

Not even speeches – it was the way we practiced.

He got you prepared to go out there, hit, and do your job, and it carried over to the game without you even having to think about it.

We were going full pads. One-on-ones in Week 17. Everybody out there tired, still going. That’s just how it was.

That physical approach – how did you manage that as a team?

That’s why we had a lot of injuries. The load was heavy.

The first two games of last year, bro, the first game I ran 10,000 yards. The second game I also ran 10,000 yards, 20,000 in two games, and still ran 4,000, 5,000, 4,000 in practice.

New Coaching Staff and the Season Ahead

With one era closing in Baltimore, attention quickly turned to what the next version of this roster could look like under new leadership.

How does Coach Minter compare in terms of that philosophy?

He worked with Harbaugh back in 2017, so he knows how we operate.

But the first thing I asked him was how practice was going to look.

He said you’re going to get your work, but we’re going to be a little easier on your body.

You’re going to be fresher for game day.

That was exactly what I needed to hear. Because toward the end of the week under the old system, my legs were shot by Saturday and I was barely recovered by kickoff.

I saw my old boy get up at 4 in the morning, work all day, come home at 6 p.m., and take us straight to practice. Ten of us deep in the truck, bags in the trunk.

On today’s show, we’re talking AFC North futures.

Jarvis & Lenny’s AFC North Picks

Everyone kind of got mad at Lenny…he said the Cleveland Browns. He’s rocking with Shedeur.

Me, on the other hand, I’m going with the Baltimore Ravens.

Joe is with Lenny, he’s going with Cleveland too.

Joe Haden’s AFC North Prediction

Honestly, I’m not mad at starting Shedeur. Cleveland still needs receivers. We need another tackle. And our defense is fire – always has been.

Now it’s about scoring points. Our rookie running back Judkins is crazy nice, rookie tight end Fannin is unbelievable – we just gotta keep him healthy. Add some receivers, and we can put up points. Defense is already legit.

But it’s really between them and the Steelers. I like Pittsburgh.

Joe Haden on the Steelers

They don’t have a quarterback right now, but they always figure something out. I like Will Howard.

He was at Ohio State before the Steelers drafted him last year. They gotta give him a chance. He was throwing to Jeremiah Smith and that helps.

Look – Pittsburgh still has DK Metcalf, they added Michael Pittman Jr., and they got that big tight end, Darnell Washington – 6’6”, 300 pounds.

They also picked up more pieces like Rico Dowdle at running back, and brought in some other guys. They made moves.

And we’re back. It’s NCAA Tournament time with Lenny’s Locks.

I know the last couple weeks, it hasn’t been working out – it’s been rough. But Lenny told me personally, this is the week we’re locking it in.

UConn vs. Illinois

I’m going with UConn.

They just upset Duke, and that’s why it’s March Madness. This is madness right now.

So I’m going with UConn. I love the head coach, his demeanor. He is a menace – how he got in the ref’s face with the jacket almost falling off. I’m like, “Yeah, yeah, we need that.”

He wants it as bad as the players. That’s the energy we need for March Madness. I love it.

Lennny’s Lock: UConn ML

Arizona vs. Michigan

I got to go with Arizona – I have to. They play amazing defense.

Also, one of the Michigan guys made a statement that kind of got Mr. Jalen Rose’s attention, saying they may be the best Michigan team ever. We’re about to find out. And that’s what Mr. Rose said – we’re gonna find out. Win it.

So right now, I’m going Arizona. I love that. You never go against the greats. So Arizona it is. Yes, sir. N0. 1 versus No. 1 – that should be a great game.

Lenny’s Lock: Arizona ML

Lenny’s National Championship Prediction

UConn. UConn all the way. And if I’m projecting, I think the UConn women’s team is going to win it all too.

Another year, another year of history for UConn – that’d be crazy. That’d be amazing.

And that’s Lenny’s Locks, presented by Hard Rock Bet.

The NCAA Tournament is here, and we’re bringing that same competitive mindset from the field to the sportsbook. We’re breaking down our final 16 picks and locking in a parlay we think is worth taking a shot on.

Let’s get right into it.

Texas vs. Purdue Picks

We’re rolling with Texas. Straight up.

Why? It’s an SEC school. You already know how we feel about that. LSU is an SEC school, so we’re sticking with the underdogs. That’s just how we’re rocking.

Arkansas vs. Arizona Picks

Now listen, March is all about Cinderella stories. Upsets happen every year, and we’re calling one right here.

Give us Arkansas.

Arkansas has Acuff Jr., a top two pick in our eyes, who’s playing out of his mind. He’s like that, no question. We’re going with the upset.

Tennessee vs. Iowa State Picks

We’re taking Iowa State, the Cyclones.

They’ve got the best three-point shooter in the world, and that’s enough for us.

4th and South 3-Leg Parlay

Now let’s bundle them together for a parlay:

Texas moneyline +300

Arkansas moneyline +325

Iowa State moneyline -190

So if you tail this bet, just know, we’ll be expecting our cut.

All referenced odds are subject to change.

For you guys who don’t know, this podcast has been a dream of mine for about three or four years now. Timing is everything, and I’m just happy to finally be here. They were asking me, “Who would you want to do it with?” And I’m like, man, listen – there’s no better person. A guy that I love, that’s my guy – Jarvis Landry.

And now we’re here.

I’m excited, man. 4th and South – it’s been a long time coming. There are going to be a lot of great stories, a lot of sports talk, and just real conversations about things we’ve been through – transitions, life, everything.

Lenny’s AFC Championship Prediction

For the AFC, I’ve got to go with Kansas City (+600), right?

They picked up Kenny Walker at running back, which is a great addition.

I think Patrick Mahomes is going to come back with a vengeance.

Andy Reid is a great coach, and it’s the first time in the last couple years they’ve had a down season.

Travis Kelce is back, too. The sky’s the limit for that squad.

Lenny’s NFC Championship Prediction

For the NFC, give me the Los Angeles Rams (+400).

Matthew Stafford, Mr. No-Look.

I don’t know if Davante Adams is going to sign back, but I think he will. I think they’ll do right by him. Kyren Williams at running back is solid, too.

They’ve got a lot going on over there.

Lenny’s Super Bowl 61 Prediction

I’m telling you – Patrick Mahomes.

Mark my words. I think Pat’s going to come back and do his thing.

Give me the Chiefs (+1200) to win the Super Bowl next season.

Lenny’s Long-Shot for Super Bowl 61

My Super Bowl long-shot is the Chicago Bears (+2250).

The quarterback talent they have there, the young wide receivers, and Coach Johnson – I think he’s going to turn a lot around this year.

He had a great season last year. I think the organization is really starting to turn things around.

They’re finding ways to keep their key guys, and whoever’s doing the drafting over there has made some great picks.
